Du Bassin Sauvage
A ghostly three-clawed prothonotary warbler lives beneath the waters in the Atchafalaya Basin. It fakes distress, like many birds do, by thrashing its head and a claw about to lure unsuspecting boaters and fishermen to come to its aid while in constant search of the one who banished it to the swamp's depths. It strikes violently quick, like a praying mantis, with all three claws and its beak, tearing at flesh around the jugular then leaving the rest for scavengers. Do be very careful if you come across a distressed bird in the water because it may well be Le Protonotaire à Trois Griffes.
Sous les eaux dans le bassin de l’Atchafalaya vit une pâle fauvette protonotaire à trois griffes. Comme beaucoup d’oiseaux, elle feint la détresse, en agitant la tête et une patte pour attirer par la ruse les canotiers et les pêcheurs peu méfiants et les inviter à lui venir en aide. Pourtant, ce qu’elle recherche, c’est celui qui l’a bannie dans les profondeurs du bayou. Elle frappe avec une violence étrangement rapide, telle la mante religieuse, et avec ses trois griffes et son bec, elle déchire l’épiderme au niveau de la jugulaire et laisse le reste aux charognards. Soyez très prudents si d’aventure vous tombiez sur un oiseau en détresse au milieu du bayou, il pourrait bien s’agir du Protonotaire à trois griffes.
