Lubber and Kamacarus in the Home Stretch
Lubber and Kamacarus in the Home Stretch
acrylic and gumbo mud on wood panel
9" x 12" x 1.5"

My dad, Hans "Fritz" Mayers, used to play with lubber grasshoppers growing up. I did as well, but he would tie matchboxes to them and have races (like horses + chariots). My grandmother showed him this game, since she did the same as a child. This inspired me to paint "Lubber and Kamacarus in the Home Stretch", though I changed the scale to Kaiju size by including Kamacarus from the Godzilla films as well as barges.

Private Collection.
